Loikaw Education Degree College can be seen on the east side of the entrance main road into Loikaw city. It is situated in Htaythama ward, Loikaw in Kayah State, Myanmar. It is located at 97° 21 N/19°70 E and 96°21 N/96°21 E.
Before 2015, there was no teacher training center in Kayah State. So the local residents did their studies of teacher education in other States and Regions. The costs of expenses and the limited allocation of teaching staff made the Kayah State inadequate human resources for education.
Loikaw Education College was the first place in Kayah State to fulfill the professional knowledge of teaching. It was established on 5th November 2015 as the 22nd Education College in Myanmar. During the under construction, the right-wing of the main building of Computer University was used as the temporary classrooms from 5th December 2015 to 30th November 2019. A move to the new Education College started on 1st December 2019, which is in the northern part of Computer University. The area of the campus is 29.41 acres. It was upgraded to four year Degree College. So the glory of the city, Loikaw Education Degree College, appears on 1st September 2020.
The former principal, U Soe Than, served at Loikaw Education College from 1st December 2015 to 30th June 2017. Daw Cherry Htun, the principal of Loikaw Education Degree College has been taking the responsibilities since 2017.
Two-year Diploma Courses, Four year Degree Courses, and In-service Correspondence Courses for primary and middle school teachers are currently being offered in Loikaw EDC. Now there is a total of 57 Faculty members and they take responsibility for producing good, efficient, and qualified teachers for the whole States.
